Ways to Decorate Your Apartment

Whether you have called an apartment home for years, or you have just moved into your first apartment, it is important for your dwelling to be a place that you enjoy to call home. Decorating your apartment is a great way to do that. There are three simple and inexpensive methods to make your apartment feel more lively, spacious, and organized.

1. Making Your Apartment Lively

Plants, pictures, paintings, and knick knacks are decorations that can add color and personality to your dwelling. House plants are great because they clean the air and add color to your apartment. Plants, cacti, and small succulents are typically an inexpensive choice for livening up your home. Cacti and small succulents are great low maintenance options. They will not have to be watered often.

Do you have photographs from a night out with friends or your last vacation? These pictures can be printed at a local store or from home if you have a photo smart printer. After they are printed they can be framed and used as décor for your tables and/or walls. Displaying these photos will bring fond memories and interest to your living area.

Another option for decorating your walls are canvas paintings. These can be bought online or in stores and most of them are bright and colorful. If purchasing one of these is not something you would like to do, there is also the option to create your own painting for your dwelling.

Another way for making your apartment lively is displaying knick knacks that you may have. A nice way to make your apartment feel like home is decorating with past treasures and antiques.

2. Ways to Make Your Apartment More Spacious

There are many ways to make a small space look larger. One way is by adjusting how you put up your curtain rods. Instead of putting them right above the window frame, put the curtain rods about a few inches under the ceiling. This will move the viewer’s eye upward making the windows look taller. This can be done with the window’s width as well. If you put the rods a few inches from the sides of the panes, the width will be visually expanded.

Another option is to use lighter colors such as gray or white on the floor and walls. This makes a tiny area look bigger and brighter.

Another way to make the area feel more spacious is to match the wall color to the curtain color. This blends the colors together forming an unbroken line which makes the apartment area seem larger. Adding vertical lines on the curtains or walls can make a lower ceiling seem high. These are only a few options for making an apartment feel more spacious.

3. Organizing Your Apartment

An efficient way to decorate your apartment is to purchase furniture with the capabilities to store things. This could be a chest, coffee table with shelves underneath it, or a buffet to store blankets, books, or other items. These pieces of furniture can be found at Goodwill or a resale shop for reasonable prices if saving money is something you would like to do. It is important to make the most of your living space and organization is key.

Those were just a few tips for decorating your apartment to make it look like a place you are proud to call home.
