New Year's Resolutions for Apartment Living

New Year's resolutions are a part of life this time of year. We all want a new year that is full of hope and the ability to meet our goals and dreams. It's December 21 already. What are you thinking about as your resolutions for the coming year?

Have you thought about making some resolutions that connect with your apartment living lifestyle? You should, especially if you feel that you are somehow limited by living in an apartment. Here are some potential resolutions for you that can help make a difference in the way you perceive your lifestyle.

Try More Home Cooking

Actually, as resolutions go, this one is fairly common. The good news is that its implications can be far-reaching. Cooking at your apartment can be considerably healthier that eating out often. And certainly preparing your own meals is a good way to save a lot of money. One of the complaints I hear about this approach is that many people don't know how to cook more than a few simple meals. Well, it's time to change that! It's not difficult to learn how to add flavor and pizzazz to your daily cooking. Start by committing to only 30 days. Once you realize that your meals taste better, you're having fun, and saving money, you might get the motivation to continue for the rest of the year!

Fill A Bag Every Day

Do you sometimes feel your space is limited or disorganized? Many people do which is why "getting organized" often shows up on people's new year's resolution list. Unfortunately that type of resolution is so poorly defined that most people don't ever follow through. Instead be real specific. Make the resolution to pack up one bag of items each day, and then completely remove that bag from your apartment. It doesn't matter if you are filling a bag with things you are going to throw away, or give away, or sell. The goal is to remove stuff from your apartment. This freeing of your space will help you feel as though life is a bit less cluttered as well. After a few weeks of commitment, you might complete this resolution.

Save Money

How would it feel if you had some extra money in your savings? Many people struggle, living paycheck to paycheck. It's time to turn things around by setting a resolution that is within easy reach. Try this. During the first week of the year, save one dollar. That's all. Easy right!? Then in the second week, save two dollars. Each week through the year you save just one more dollar than the previous week. Remarkably, by the end of the year, you will have saved $1,378.

Get Out More Often

Now that you are making your own meals, it's time to get out for other activities and socialization. Many people spend their evenings inside their apartment watching some mind-sucking episode of something on their television. This has a variety of negative consequences if you do it too often. Instead, make a resolution to get out of your apartment much more frequently and explore what your city or community has to offer. When the weather cooperates, go to a nearby park, or try a walk at the shopping mall. You could even join a gym which would connect nicely with a health resolution.

No matter which of these resolutions you target, they can have a pleasant impact on your life. That makes you much more likely to reach your goals, and can help to make your life more fulfilling.
