Fun Activities and Events in the Milwaukee Area
As the days start getting longer and the weather begins to get warmer, you may be searching for fun activities to experience this summer in the Milwaukee area. There are many events and attractions to check out that are educational, interesting, and fun.
Summerfest
Summerfest is an annual Milwaukee tradition that offers a great selection of music and entertainment during their 11 day run. Summerfest opens on June 26 and goes until July 7, 2019. The lineup of nationally and internationally known musical acts is outstanding. There are 12 stages that offer many different genres of music that have people returning year after year.
There is honestly something for every individual at this venue. Summerfest is celebrating its 51st year of fun and entertainment. The Big Bang fireworks on opening night are a must see! This event is definitely something every person in Milwaukee should experience!
Wisconsin State Fair
The Wisconsin State Fair is a great event for people of all ages to attend. This year the fair runs August 1-11, 2019. There are farm animals from many places in the state of Wisconsin on display and who can forget cream puffs and the midway! In the Wisconsin Exposition Center you can view aisles and aisles of vendors and 4-H projects on display.
The grandstand offers nationally known artists or comedians each night of the fair. Tickets for these performances are sold in advance online or at the ticket office located in Wisconsin State Fair Pak. If you love fair food or food on a stick, you will love this venue! Eat your way around the fairgrounds and enjoy the music at the various side stages along the way!
Museums
There are a number of museums in downtown Milwaukee that offer several different options for you and your family. A great museum to check out if you have young children, is the Betty Brinn Museum or Discovery World Museum. At both places, kids can learn by doing and creating hands on projects. Discovery World is located on the shore of Lake Michigan and the views of the lake and city are amazing.
Not too far away is the Milwaukee Art Museum. Also located right next to Lake Michigan, the Art Museum offers beautiful views and the art inside is interesting and colorful.
Lastly, the Milwaukee Public Museum has many historical exhibits to view. It offers a trip back in time with the glacier and prehistoric era, the Streets of Old Milwaukee, as well as a look at the rich American Indian heritage. All of these museums are a great way to spend the day learning and discovering all at the same time.
Zoo
The Milwaukee County Zoo, located on Bluemound Road in Milwaukee, offers a wide range of animals to view and feed. The goats and giraffes are two animals that the zoo allows patrons to feed daily. Besides the animals, the zoo has many other attractions. There is a zip line, rope course, carousel, sky glider, zoo train, pony rides, and zoo mobile for visitors to experience.
The zoo is open rain or shine and offers a number of indoor animal displays to get you out of the hot sun or rain. Make sure to check out their hours as the zoo is a must see for any animal lover young and old alike.
There are a number of fun things to do in the Milwaukee area this summer! I have only talked about a few of the events and attractions but there are many more.
