Apartment Christmas Decorating Ideas
Christmas is coming fast, and it's time to decorate your apartment so that you can display your own good holiday cheer.
Space in an apartment is often limited because you don't have the inside and outside of an entire house to work with. You might appreciate this fact, but you have to make sure that your decorating does not become clutter. You want it to represent your good taste, not your mess-making ability!
Also, since there are other families living in close proximity, safety is even more important than if you were decorating your own house. So pay attention to your apartment complex rules as well as good safety advice.
Here are some of the things you can consider in your Christmas decorating...
Safety First
As I already mentioned, keep safety in mind at all times. Statistics show that most home fires are started during the holiday season running from about Halloween through New Year's Day. Cooking is one of culprits, but another biggy is holiday decorations.
For example, candles, whether for color or fragrance, make lovely decorations, but it's important that you do not light them if you are not present. Candles have a flame that must be supervised to be safe. If you have children or pets, this is especially true. In that case your might want to consider buying decorative electric candles that look real, perhaps with flickering LED lights. Here are some candles that operate with a remote control and timer.
And Your Tree?
In an apartment, you might be better off with a small artificial tree. Small is good if you don't have much space for a larger tree. And artificial is good because they can remain fire resistant. But you also don't have to worry about dropping needles throughout the hallway as you take the tree to and from your apartment. You'll be much happier putting the tree back in a box than trying to clean up needles so the neighbors don't complain.
Go out and enjoy trees in their natural environment, and then go indoors to decorate your artificial tree. If you need that pine smell in your apartment, you could try some pine scented ornaments like these.
Do You Have A Balcony?
If you do, or if you have a porch, you can also decorate that to share your holiday cheer with the neighbors. If your apartment complex allows, you could even wrap some electric lights around the railing. You can go big with inflatable decorations, like Santa Claus or a snowman, or to keep the holiday spirit stick with an inflatable nativity scene. When the season is over you can easily pack up these decorations and store them until next year.
Use Your Windows
Another idea that can be fun is to decorate windows. There are several different ways that you can do this...
- Purchase acrylic decals that easily stick onto your windows. Simply peel them off in January.
- Buy washable paint, and put your own unique touch on your windows.
- Buy a small, lighted, electric decoration that you can place on your window sill so people outside can enjoy it too.
Have Fun Decorating Your Apartment
The best advice I can offer is to stay safe. And, second, keep in mind how easy it will be to store your decorations once the holidays are over. If storage will be difficult, it might be best to come up with another idea instead. After those two tips, just go after the types of decorations that truly reflect your own personal style and the message of the season that you want to portray. Your apartment complex might also have their own rules about decorations, so be sure to follow those so that you don't run into any problems with management.
