7 Simple Things To Do To Host A Party In Your Apartment

In days gone by, say the 1950s and 1960s, people often expected a housewife to host a good party. Clearly, these days, this is not the expectation.

These days hosting a party can be a nightmare. This is especially true if you rent an apartment. There's just not much space in an apartment, which makes party planning even more difficult.

Luckily, there are a few things you can do that will help immensely. Many of them are easy, a few are time-consuming, but they can all help quite a bit.

Clear Out The Front Closet

This seems pointless, but it can actually make a big difference. For starters, it helps you get rid of unnecessary stuff. This alone can make an apartment feel larger. However, that's not the only thing that this does.

It also gives your guests a good place for their stuff, which mean you preserve more space for entertaining. For example, many people have guests lay their coats on the bed in the bedroom. With the front closet cleared out you can use the bedroom space as part of your entertainment space.

Move Furniture

If you have enough space, try moving furniture around. You could try putting the couch in a different room and only have chairs in the main seating area. Or you could try moving the dining room table around in order to give guests more room to stand.

Don't Overdo Decorations

It can be tempting to spread decorations all around the apartment. They're fun and festive, and they can add a great ambiance. Since space is at a premium, it's probably better to do without most of the decorations you would otherwise use. And, just this morning, I heard a real estate professional comment that, in regards to decorating, anything smaller than you fist can seem like clutter.

Use Natural Lighting

Whenever possible, keep the electric lights turned off and use natural light instead. It makes the area feel more comfortable and keeps attention away from the corners and flaws.

Spread Food Around The Apartment

If you have all the food and drinks bunched together, then all the guests will bunch together around them. This makes the apartment feel small and cramped. Spreading the refreshments around causes the guests to spread around, which opens the apartment up. Doing this also helps people mingle.

Consider Temperature

Consider the fact that a higher number of people means things can get hot and uncomfortable quite quickly. If you have a large number of people over, turn the thermostat down. However, you should keep an eye for when guests begin to leave. You may need to turn the temperature back up if several guests leave early.

Get The Neighbors Involved

If possible, see if your neighbors would like to join in hosting the event. That way, you can use both apartments to entertain. That gives you twice the space. Of course, this only works if your neighbors are close enough that guests can easily go back and forth.

Trying to host a party is stressful. It's especially stressful if you feel as though you don't have enough space. That said, it's always possible to make things feel a bit more spacious. It may take a bit of effort, but it can make your event much more comfortable overall.
